1. General Provisions

1.1. These terms and conditions define the rules of vehicle rental between Iceland to Go ehf. ("Owner") and the person renting the vehicle ("Renter").

1.2. The rental agreement is concluded upon signing the rental document or confirming the reservation through the online system.

1.3. The Renter declares that they have read the terms and conditions, accept their content, and agree to comply with all provisions.

2. Subject of rental and vehicle handover

2.1. The subject of the agreement is the vehicle specified in the reservation confirmation, along with its standard equipment.

2.2. The vehicle is handed over to the Renter in proper technical and visual condition, with all necessary documents, keys, and a full tank of fuel.

2.3. Any existing damage or deficiencies must be recorded in the handover protocol.

3. Scope of vehicle use

3.1. The vehicle may be driven only on public, paved roads.

3.2. Driving off-road, through rivers, on ice, lava fields, or other prohibited terrain is strictly forbidden.

3.3. F-Roads may be used only by 4x4 vehicles approved by the Owner.

3.4. The Renter must hold a valid driver’s license (minimum 1 year) and be at least 20 years old.

4. Rental period and vehicle return

4.1. The minimum rental period is 3 days (72 hours).

4.2. The vehicle must be returned to our office at Melabraut 29, 220 Hafnarfjörður, Iceland, with the same fuel level as recorded at pickup, complete equipment, and in a condition not worsened beyond normal wear and tear. We offer free transport from the office to Keflavík Airport (approximately 25 km away). The vehicle must be returned at least 3 hours before the scheduled flight departure to allow for safe airport transfer.

4.3. Late return without the Owner’s approval: 25 EUR for each started hour. Exceeding 2 hours results in a full extra rental day charge.

4.4. Returning the vehicle in an excessively dirty condition may result in a cleaning fee ranging from 50 to 100 EUR.

5. Fees and payments

5.1. Full payment for the rental is required at the time of booking or vehicle pickup.

5.2. We accept credit cards (excluding American Express), cash, and bank transfers.

6. Security deposit

6.1. A deposit is held on the Renter’s credit card to cover damages, fines, missing fuel, or additional charges. Passenger cars: 1000 EUR Campers: 1700 EUR

6.2. The deposit is released after the rental period, provided no additional costs have been incurred.

7. Additional drivers

7.1. Additional drivers are included in the rental price, provided they are listed in the rental agreement.

7.2. Driving by persons not listed in the agreement voids all insurance coverage.

8. Insurance

8.1. Basic coverage (included in the rental price)

TP (Theft Protection)
GP (Gravel Protection)
SADW (Sand and Ash Damage Waiver)

Renter’s deductible: up to 3500 EUR

TP (Theft Protection) – Theft insurance Protects the Renter from costs in case of theft of the rented vehicle. Covers the vehicle’s value in the event of total loss. Does not cover personal belongings inside the vehicle. Insurance may be void in case of gross negligence (e.g., leaving the keys inside the car).

GP (Gravel Protection) Covers damage to paint, windows, headlights, and bodywork caused by gravel — a very common risk on Icelandic roads.

SADW (Sand and Ash Damage Waiver) Covers damage caused by strong winds carrying volcanic ash and sand. Protects the paint, windows, and other parts of the vehicle from very costly damage that is often excluded from basic insurance.

Renter’s deductible: up to 3500 EUR This is the maximum amount the Renter must pay out of pocket in case of damage. The remaining costs are covered by the insurer. The deductible can be reduced or fully waived by purchasing an additional package.

TPL (Third-Party Liability) Mandatory insurance that protects the Renter from third-party claims. Covers personal injury and property damage caused to other road users. Does not cover damage to the rented vehicle or self-inflicted damage.

8.2. Additional packages


Standard Protection (+16 EUR/day): Deductible reduced to 1000 EUR. Includes CDW.

Super Protection (+35 EUR/day): Deductible reduced to 500 EUR. Includes CDW + SCDW, windshield and tire protection.

Full Protection (+50 EUR/day): Deductible waived (0 EUR). Full package including: CDW, SCDW, GP, TP, SADW, windshield and tire protection, undercarriage coverage, water and wind damage.


TPL (Third-Party Liability) Mandatory insurance that protects the Renter from third-party claims. Covers personal injury and property damage caused to other road users. Does not cover damage to the rented vehicle or self-inflicted damage.


TP (Theft Protection) Protects the Renter from costs in case of theft of the rented vehicle. Covers the vehicle’s value in the event of loss. Does not cover personal belongings inside the vehicle. May be void in case of gross negligence (e.g., leaving the keys inside the car).


GP (Gravel Protection) Protects against damage to paint, windows, headlights, and bodywork caused by flying gravel — very common on Icelandic roads.


SADW (Sand and Ash Damage Waiver) Covers damage caused by strong winds carrying volcanic ash and sand. Protects paint, windows, and other parts of the vehicle from expensive damage often excluded from standard coverage.


Renter’s deductible: up to 3500 EUR This is the maximum amount the Renter is responsible for in the event of damage. The remaining costs are covered by the insurer. The deductible can be reduced or fully waived by purchasing an additional insurance package.

8.3. Liability exclusions


Insurance coverage does not apply in the event of:


Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs


Gross negligence or intentional actions


Off-road driving, water crossing, driving on ice or lava


Driving by unauthorized persons


Violation of traffic regulations

8.4. Procedure in case of damage


8.4.1. In the event of a collision, the Renter must immediately notify the Owner and the police, and wait for an official report to be issued.


8.4.2. Failure to comply with these obligations may result in the cancellation of insurance coverage and full financial liability of the Renter.


8.5. Liability for additional equipment The Renter is responsible for the loss or damage of keys, GPS devices, child seats, and other accessories.

9. Obligations of the Renter

9.1. Use of the vehicle in accordance with the law and these terms and conditions.

9.2. Driving under the influence and smoking inside the vehicle are strictly prohibited.

9.3. The vehicle must be kept clean.

9.4. The Renter is responsible for covering the cost of any fines, tolls, and parking fees, as well as a handling fee of up to 30 EUR for their processing.

10. Obligations of the Owner

10.1. Deliver the vehicle on the agreed date and in proper technical condition.

10.2. Provide 24/7 roadside assistance, including towing to the nearest repair facility.

10.3. Ensure the availability of a 24/7 support hotline.

10.4. Not be held responsible for personal belongings left in the vehicle.

10.5. Ensure that the vehicle has valid insurance as required by Icelandic law (e.g., TPL, TP).

10.6. Perform regular maintenance and technical inspections according to the manufacturer’s guidelines.

10.7. Provide the Renter with information about basic safety rules and driving conditions in Iceland (e.g., F-Road usage, speed limits, weather hazards).

10.8. Replace the vehicle in case of a malfunction not caused by the Renter, if on-site repair is not possible within a reasonable time.

10.9. Provide clear operating instructions for additional equipment (e.g., Webasto in campervans, parking heater, GPS).

10.10. Provide the Renter with the rental agreement in English or Polish.

10.11. In case of reported damage – cooperate with the Renter in completing the necessary insurance formalities.

11. Cancellations and reservation changes

11.1. Cancellations must be made in writing (via email).

11.2. Refund policy: – Cancellation 30 days or more before the pickup date – 100% refund. – Cancellation between 2 and 29 days before the pickup date – 50% refund. – Cancellation 1 day or less before the pickup date – no refund.

11.3. Reservation date changes are possible only if the vehicle is available and must be confirmed in writing by the Owner.

12. Personal data protection

12.1. Personal data is processed in accordance with the GDPR and Icelandic law.

12.2. Data is used solely for the purpose of executing the rental agreement.

13. Governing law and dispute resolution

13.1. These terms and conditions are governed by Icelandic law.

13.2. Any disputes shall be settled before the courts in Reykjavík or Hafnarfjörður.

14. Final provisions

14.1. Any amendments to this agreement must be made in writing.

14.2. The Renter agrees to receive marketing information from the Owner.

15. Additional provisions

15.1. Vehicles may not leave the territory of Iceland.

15.2. If the vehicle is picked up with less than a full tank, the Renter must return it with the same fuel level or pay the difference according to the current price list.

15.3. There is no daily mileage limit unless otherwise agreed in the rental agreement.

15.4. Credit card payments must be made with a card issued in the name of the main driver. Cash and bank transfers are accepted only upon prior agreement with the Owner.

15.5. Some vehicles may be equipped with a GPS or other tracking device for theft prevention and to verify compliance with the rental agreement.

15.6. For campervans, additional fees apply for emptying the chemical toilet, gray water tanks, and excessive interior cleaning.

15.7. Complaints may be submitted in writing to the Owner’s email address within 14 days after the end of the rental period. The Owner agrees to respond within 14 business days.
